Lost Wages
On Sunday morning my Silver Arowana started acting erratically and swimming nervously. He had eaten some shrimp earlier in the day there was a visible bulge where the meal had not digested yet.

I turned down the tank lights but within moments he was swimming head down and soon after floating.

After removal from the tank I ran a full test of all the water with zero ammonia, zero nitrite, and less than 25 ppm nitrate. Chlorine, chloramine and Ph were all within acceptable ranges.

Is it possible to have fed too much raw shrimp to him? I had a friend tell me he had an issue with iodine poisoning from overfeeding raw shrimp.

I really lack any other decent reason for his sudden demise.:(
Currently he is frozen and I thaw him out later this week to examine the situation further.

Did the shrimp have the tails on? Or any sharp edges from the exoskeleton? Because that happened to me too, when I was feeding those little shrimp from the green can that had really sharp tails. It punctures their stomach sometimes.

You should do an autopsy and check the stomach for any punctures.

Sorry for your loss. :(

Yea, I was thinking there was a possibility I did not clean the food completely. I know I removed the tail but I imagine any scrap of shell could case that injury as well.
Later this week I will take him off ice and do a thorough autopsy.
Thanks for your feedback.
