Good day to all! My 7 inch arowana, that I've had since it was only 2 inches, has decided to pretty much stop eating. I did some reading and still cannot figure out what the cause is. It's mouth is always opening and closing while it breaths and it's fins are starting to look a little bit tattered. I have a JD, Nile Tilapia and RTxSN in the tank with it and they don't really bother each other at all. I've done the big water changes and my tank continues to be acidic. It is 120 gallon with a fluval 404. I have just got, but not put in, some crushed coral to add to my media in order to raise the pH. The arowana has always eaten shrimp and meal worms. i even just bought some crickets hoping that might get it interested in food again. I had been feeding it every day and occasionally every other day. What do you think is going on here? More water changes perhaps?

The fins didn't get tattered on their own...I'm guessing another one of your fish is messing with it when your not around. Find out which one and separate them ASAP.

I 2nd that

Plus just a 404? water quality? Ph,ammonia, nitrite, nitrate etc...

better seperate the aro!! The JD might be bullying the aro hence the tattered fins. Add salt and do another water change. Aros are super sensitive to water quality so add water conditioners.

Thank you all for the info. Much appreciated as always. Water quality is good except quite acidic, thus the crushed coral in the filter. A second fluval is hopefuly in the works for the near future. For water conditioners I use Aqua Plus. Is there something else I should be using in addition?

Switch to Seachem Prime or Seachem Safe for water conditioners. They're guaranteed to bind ammonia, remove chlorine/chloramines and other harmful metals. Your Aro is just stressed, figure out which one is bullying the Aro and remove it or remove the Aro.

Btw, your name is a bit disturbing. Everytime I see it, I think of underwear. ._.

get a much bigger tank or seperate the aro untill hes okay!
he is likely be superstressed!!
And add some STRESSCOAT to your water!
And do upgrade to a bigger tank ASAP!!!!

Thank you guys for all the feed back. I separated the arow two days ago to a hospital tank but unfortunately the damage had been done and it went down hill from there. As of this morning I am minus 1 arowana. Always a little sadder when you grew them. Gotta use this opportunity to learn from the mistakes made. Thanks for all the good advice as always MFK members!
