Silver Arowana with a JD?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
An aro can get 3' swell as the shovelnose, so my answer us no, and I'd get rid off the shovelnose unless you have a very large tank or pond..

I do have larger. This is the tank that I have room in right now for the arowana. I'm not worried about the sizes becuause I'm aware of what they grow into and am prepared for that. I'm wondering more about compatibility. Will the JD nip of the fins or is it more likely to leave it alone as it is not another cichlid to compete against?

what are your plans for the future? As for compatibility, you should be fine unless you havbe an overly agressive JD..

He's not too bad I don't think but you never know. He and the tilapia have been together for a year and he dominates over the tilapia but last weekend I tried a slighlty larger flowerhorn in with him and they went to war. He held his own and the tilapia actualy was nipping at the fins of the flowerhorn while it was locking mouths with the JD. It was kinda interesting/surprising to see that.

never saw that you had the tilapia...those guys are nasty, so actually i wouldn't put the aro in there, they can be really skittish especially with an aggressive tankmate as such, and the last thing you'd want would be a dried up aro ..

I would not do it unless you are planning on changing things.
