i have been looking to get something to grow out in my 5x2x2 before it can be moved to a 8'x30"x42" (lxhxd) and i was wandering if i could house a silver aro in the 5x2x2 for 18 months if i get it at 4-6" before moving it out.
At about 20" the silver will start to become cramped. A 6" aro will reach that length in about a year, maybe sooner. I would think it would be OK in that tank for that time you stated.
alternativly i could get an asian but would it be ok with clown loaches, pleco, synodontis, fire eel, senegal bichir, bgk until it moved into the bigger tank (all fish are over 6 inches and i would get the aro at 5")
its not the price of the asians that bothers me (christmas is coming) im just unsure of the aggresion they have 2 3 footers at the local zoo in with loaches and denosini barbs and they are realy docile but i wasnt sure if they are aggresive when smaller.
Asians arent really that bad about tankmates, the fish you listed will hang around the bottom of the tank so it shouldnt be a problem. An asian aro might be a better alternative. Or even a black aro.
Black aro as in the black south american ones, i thought they were just the same as the silvers exept didnt get quite as big but had the same growth rate. I think ill go with an asian anyway.
