ok i got a large one and he has been great. i put an air stone in the tank because i have been having trouble keeping the no3 down in the tank. the bubble wall is next to the edge of the tank and my larger of the two will swim into the bobbles and into the wall and trys to swim through the wall it is kinda strange. he has never done this before is there something with the bobbles that is confusing him if i move it to the middle of the tank will it upset my catfish? has anyone had this happen before please give me some advice on what might be going on thanks i just dont want him to get hurt from rubbing his nose

How does adding an airstone help keep nitrates down?

I would just get rid of the bubbles, maybe the tank is getting to cramped and he wants out.

I agree with the above just ditch the bubbles and add carbon. But if you still want the bubbles try the middle of the tank. The catfish wouldn't mind at all he'd most likely just move to a new spot. Strange your aro would do that most public aquria use bubbles to keep the fish from slamming into the glass

carben breaks down no2 into no3 and no3 is evaperated into the air by water movement. a good example is if you have high no3 in your tank when your are refilling it preasseriz the water going into the tank and it will create a foam on the top of the water after a bit it will start going away. that is the way a bio cycle works ammonia to no2 then to no3 and into the air it goes. the tank is a little cramped but everything is going in a 220 im working on setting up hopeing to have water in it by this weekend as well as starting to build the filter system

If you want to help keep your N0-3 down, do weekly water changes.

i do 50% every week im just starting to think i have a bobble happy aro lol i moved it to the center of the tank and he just keeps swiming back and forth throu them lol. i will be so happy when i get the bigger tank set up for them and then this summer i will be putting in a intex pool in my basement. that will make them all realy happy going to be yousing pool filters for that as well as a 150g troth as a sump/waterfall

i think some aros just like water movement, i have one that likes to just swim in front of my filter outlet and my wavemaker

Sorry but No3 (nitrates) do not evaporate nor does carbon break No2(nitrite) into No3.
