hey everyone I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about drop eye in my 10" silver aro. He is getting it in one eye only. thanks

There are a lot of suggestions on how to PREVENT drop eye on arowanas but there is only one reliable way of getting rid of it : operating on the fish to remove the extra fat. I have heard that putting aros in a pond works too but i have not confirmed that

Using a PingPong ball i believe is part of the prevention. They do this , like Nealy said, to keep the aros eye pointing upwards..

Also, please take note that Drop Eye is not a disease but a condition that affects only aros kept in aquariums.

PM me if you want links on how to operate on your arowana to remove the fat that causes drop eye.

I have heard a lot of storys about drop eye. Some say it is do to fat, some say its genitic due to mass inbreeding because it only seems to happen to silvers, etc. But its really just due to the fact that your arrow is in to small of a tank. They can be held in a 100 to 150 but they will allways get drop eye no matter how many water changes you do and it allways seems to happen around 9-12 inches. I have a 10 inch black and it doesn't have it and all he eats is live food....thats all he will eat(live caught) but my silver got it right away. If you ask me stay away from buying silver arrows unless you know it is a F0 because your just asking for drop eye. Unfortunatly the wild caught ones cost a 3X those that are farm raised but trust me it is worth it.

Yeah wild caught silvers or black aros if you hate drop eyes. But drop eye is not really a disease or a debilitating condition to the fish. The silver can still live a long healthy life even with drop-eye so if you like silvers then just go for it. !!
