so i picked up another silver from a friend who needed to move it fast, and put it in with my silver, and it took a beating for about a day until i realized it (he only did it about 20% of the time)
now i have them seperated, and i found a new owner for him, but i was just wondering how big of a deal a beat up tail is, and how quickly can it heal?

to me it looks like there are the "bones" or harder fin material that would hold the fin up, and then the softer "skin" that would fill in between to make a beautiful arowana fin ... well, in this one, all the soft stuff is gone, it looks like a bunch of spines where the fin should be ... :(

If no open wounds treat with clean water and 1 tablespoon salt per 5 gallon of water.

If there are open wounds I would replace the salt for melafix.

Most inportant thing is the clean water, do as much WCs as it takes to keep the nitrates under 10ppm.

The tail should heal fine.

i have him in a rubbermaid until i can get him to the guy who is taking him. and i have him in there with some salt. his activity has improved a lot in the last day or so, but i just noticed the tail :(

hmmm...no worries on torn-tail! it will recover bt only will takes sometimes...normally it will take around 3 mnth! do cnhg the water frequently to enhance the recovery...once a week would be ideal chng of 40-50% water. salt also shud be add aswell! good luck :D
