i like the look of Datnioides quadrifasciatus and believe it would make an interesting addition to my tank.
would it be ok in a 4x2x2/120 gallon with 2 uaru A., 7 clown loaches, BN plec, 4 gold gouramis, 4 angel fish?
or would i need to get rid of the angels?
also, how tough are they as £50 is a lot for one fish so if it dies in a couple of days im gonna be really p***ed!
many thanks guys.:)

ya they are pretty hardy but I am not sure how the AT would be with the rest of your fish...

ATs are the most aggressive of the Datnoid family kind of funny since they are the smallest around 10"s...

would any Dat be ok with my lot and if any are what is max size, will it go in my tank, what does it eat (pellets etc)?
thanks for the reply

I guess you could go with an IT Indo dat, they normally stay around 12" in an aquarium but have the potential to get 16" and my guys seem pretty relaxed compared to the AT...

Should be fine-mine doesn't bother anything. BTW £50 I feel is way overpriced for UK-how big is it for that money?
I've seen 2" for £12 and paid around £30 myself for 4" one last year

it is 10-12cm for £44.95.
did look at thin bars as an alternative to the quad Dat as they are a bit cheaper. but again info on thin bars would be appreciated, info seems a bit thin on the net.
i may just get more uaru, im still unsure.i keep looking around and new fish seem to pop up so i keep getting side tracked to other fish.

I got my NGT and Thinbars from wildwoods-couldn't understand why their Indo & Silver Tigers were pricey (especially compared to other shops). Thinbars would be fine also-I find them peaceful. In all they're mainly a different colour to the Silver Tigers but the same rules apply. Would add that out of the two I find Thinbars less stable (but I feel most Tigers are a little unstable when smaller)

what do you mean by "less stable"?
i admit that something like hannibal lecter came into my mind with a full tank massacre lol. im gonna guess you didnt mean that though.
thanks for replying

It is commonly agreed that NGT is the most aggressive of the Dat species. AT's are normally peaceful but can be a bit aggressive during feeding time. Mine actually takes food out of the mouths of larger fish. They can get up to 12". Oh and quadrifasciatus is an outdated name. It is referred to as "Polota" now.

Thin bars are the most timid of tha Dat species and will likely do the best with its tank mates. They get similar in size.

Less stable means the gold will turn dark and/or black bars will fade. This tends to happen to Dats when they are not happy with something. Poor water quality, bad diet, aggressive tank mates, lighting, etc. Young ones are more likely to be unstable.
