Silver Dollar breeding colour change question

Hi all, 2 of my dollars have been showing strong breeding behaviors. Following each other shimmering together a lot etc. BUT regarding colour change, they've both now got a couple of darkened blotches on their sides and both have BOTH now a clear orange and black stripe down their tail fins- thought this only happened on males? Am I right or might they be a matched pair? If they are I will put them in their own tank to give the eggs a chance. Thanks in advance Wayne
