I have a Silver Dollar who is about 5.5" TL. I saw him down on the bottom of the tank kinda wedged between a rock and the glass in the back of the tank. I thought it was dead so I attemted to pull it out. As soon as I touched it with my net, I saw it wiggle. I moved the rock and it kinda swam away. It was not stuck, but was just to weak to get itself out.

After it swam away, I noticed some pretty major damage to one side. Almost like the other fish were picking on it when it was down. I took it out and put it in a hospital tank to see if it heals, plus it was weak, so I wanted to keep it away from the other fish that might be picking on it.

A day went by and the wound almost looked like skin was plealing off, but the fish started eating and swimming more. The next day, the excess skin fell off and now it looks like exposed flesh.

The thing is, the fish is eatting really well, swims really well and looks as if nothing is wrong.

Any ideas?

A little salt (tbsp/10g)and extra waterchanges.
Same thing happened to mine when my oscar decided he didnt like them, you could see the meat and bones, grew back fine except for the eye.

glad he is feeling better...be sure to watch out for any fungus infections!

Great!! Thanks for the replies. My SD is doing better by the day. The wound is healing quick.

finsandfangs, who did that to your Silver Dollars?

I have also seen a sloughing wound due to a heater burn when the fish wedged itself between the tube and the tank glass.
