are silver dollars a smaller species of pacu??? because I have seen them called silver pacus.
also would they get along in a 55g tank with a senegal bichir and green terror, or would that overstock because I heard they need to be in a group of 6

Very closely related in the Characin family. Silver dollars just get smaller than pacus.

I've had quite a few Silver Dollars over the years and they do pretty well with bigger aggresive fish. My Oscar and JD and Jag always just ignored them and vice versa..

silver dollars would be fune w/ your other fish. i would do a group of 6. they get 6-8'' long.

I have also read that on occasion the silver dollars, at least some species are referred to as types of pacu. Very closely related, at present I am looking for 5 black bar silver dollars........small ones. They get to 39 cm in nature, not sure about big aquarium.

I had 5 in a community tank for a few years. They got around 7 inches or so. Beautiful fish and very closely related to the Pacu. The should be fine with just about anything that can't swallow them whole :) I think they kind of apear bigger to other fish also. I dunno, I never had a problem with any fish messing with them.

I have a shoal of six in a 55g but they have grown too big for it really and are getting shifted to a 180 this week... Beautiful fish but in my opinion too big for a 55 as mine are way happier in a group (I bought one that was left over in a LFS tank on his own, then added others) and they need space to swim as they are very active!
