I have 2 9-year old silver dollars in my 125g sa/ca tank. A month ago placed a plant that didn't work too well in my other tank with the silver dollars as a treat and they didn't touch it, after a week I moved 2 amazon swords that were too big for my 20g in with them and all is great. Is it possible that because of their age and never having live plants until now that their instincts to eat the plants went away? Or are amazon swords unappetising to them? Or is it is what it is? I'm trying to decide whether to get a few more sd but I like the live plant look

It's a little odd. Silver dollars will usually devour even those plants that are considered "safe" for silver dollars. Their age and lack of experience with plants may have something to do with it. Is it safe to assume that you've also never given them fresh veggies?

Only fed fresh veggies a handful of times used to give a lot of algae wafers when younger and spirinula but that's other than that they eat what I feed my cichlids

Kinda weird my sd ( I have a school of 6 ) will destroy any plant or veggie matter I give them and they are old too. Usally just gave them NLS pellets.
