my local lfs sells silver dollars and the temp of the tank they keep them in is cold. i bought 2 b4 and raised them in a cold water tank just like the store they were eating then one day they died. what happened. if i ever get more should i raise the temp. slowly

How "cold" is cold? What temp? What temp is the stores tank and what temp did you try to keep them at?
Just acclimate your purchases to 78 once you get them. I've bought fish before where they had their fish in 65F-70F and brought them home floated them for 20 minutes and they seemed happy once they got into the water.
