I have been feeding my aro frozen cocktail shrimp since i got him. I went away for the weekend and noticed that his upper lip was a little raw ans slightly red? Did the eating frozen shrimp do this to him? Should i thaw them out first. I tried to take pictures, but nothing turned out really good.
thanks

john

Dont know if it did it to him, But its best to thaw things out.

Have you ever eaten something frozen, when it melts in your stomach you get a cold cramping feeling and it sucks( thats what happend to me " frozen chicken " ) EGH!.

:)

yea, I let the shrimp soak in a glass of hot water for a while before feeding.
I doubt if it caused the red lip, but it's better to thaw it.
The red lip could be from rubbing on the glass

dont soak it in hot water. hot water has the nasty havit of turing frozen shrimp into brown pieces of nasty shrimp. i'd use normal temp tap water and refresh that a couple of times for the perfect shrimp.

Yes, use warm water to defrost shrimp. I would suggest that you feed raw shrimp or prawn from your local market, it will be much higher in nutirients and have no harmfull additives.

What kind of shrimp do you buy:ROFL:

I've never had that problem. I just drop them in hot water for a few minutes and the it's good to go.

Don't forget to let your shrimps or any other different freezed food in temperate water... But for the red lip I think it's more about waiting for food scratching on a face of the aquarium...
