so supposing i have enough filtration how long will one work in a 125 with one oscar(5in) and one pleco (8in).

and possibly, how long will two work.

How big is the arowana? With in two years the aro will be 24" long.

^^^^ i agree..,,i already did this..,but donated the aro once it hit 18'' to a 750g.

I bought my arrowana as a 2 inch juvenile and kept him in a 29 gallon for the first 6 months. He grew about an inch a month and thats with lots of water changes and heavy feedings. I then moved him to a 55 gallon for the next 18 months where he reached 20 inches, and then moved him to an 800 gallon display tank at my favorite local bar and grill. That was 15 years ago and he is now about 28-30 inches. So to answer your question, you could easily keep him in a 125 for 5-7 years. It really seems like once they hit 18-20 inches that their growth rate slows dramatically.

Do you actually have experience with aros? 5-7 years in a 125? :screwy: more like 5-7 months. If thats your logic, I can keep an arapaima in my tank for life...

Your experience is not typical of the average silver aro.

With sensible feedings and care the average silver will grow 1-1.5" per month. Once they hit the 24-25" range their growth generally will slow to 1-2" per year.

Silver arowana are gluttons and if you feed heavily they can grow 2-3" per month.

If starting with a 6" or under silver aro the best you should expect will be about a year in the 125g depending on the tanks dimensions.

Not recommended to keep small aros with big cichlids either, I wouldn't put anything smaller then a 10" silver aro with a 5" oscar.

2 silvers usually one picks on the other like crazy. opt for 3 or more to keep the fighting down but then again its only 125g so get 1. don't overdo it.

maybe less...i got my first silver around 8" and it grew to 22" within 8 months before it jumped out of its tank.
