on a rock
i have had my silver for about 6 months, he's about 12" long, and he has been eating well all this time. in the past couple of days he has not been taking any of the food that i regularly feed him ie. freeze dreid krill, hikari sticks, freeze dreid shrimp, etc. the only thing i haven't tried that he usually eats are live crickets.
i just recently changed my filtration system on my tank to a fluval fx5, i had an eheim 2217 in there before. i used all of the media from the eheim and put it in the fx5. so i am sure that all of the bacteria is still the same.
the water parameters are all good. and i have been doing water changes of 25-35% about every 3 -4 days. is there something i am doing wrong or is he just being picky? or maybe it is the new filter?
i also had a power head in there before with the eheim, but took it out since the fx5 has enough water movement. the power head was also pushing a lot of air bubbles through it when it was in the tank. could it be that there is not enough oxygen?
if someone could help me out with this i would really appreciate your input.
also sorry for the looong story.:)

your silver is still adjusting to the new tank setup.. you said a couple of days? well, it could survive two weeks without food.. just be patient yet vigilant.. it will soon eat.. best of luck!

I would let him starve a little. My red did the same thing about 3 months after getting him. He refused to eat, and eventually he started again when i threw in a few goldfish. MAybe his buddy kong -clownknife encouraged him, cause he was eating like a pig and still is. Hopefully he will eat in the next couple of days, but if not then i dont know what is wrong. Good luck!

ya give it alittle time, im sure he will chill out and eat soon. just try diff kind of foods, bloodworms, earthworms, waxworm, mealworms, shrimp, pellots, u name it there is all kinda things u can try.

thanks for your help. i'm still gonna try different foods until he starts to eat again.

be patient
silver aros are pick sometimes.
i try to change, sometimes pelltes or sticks, othr live foods (small larvas, tenebrios - all raised by me, not catch on nature), small fishes (lambari, platis, guppies, lips)
he just don't stop eating give a couple of minutes and he will eat again.
has now about 10" and growing.

thanks for the reassurance. i just want to make sure that i dont lose this fish for something i did wrong and that i could have prevented it.
