Hey all,
So for the last 2 weeks my female silver saum (6inch) and my Synspilum (6inch) have been looking like they might be trying too pair off or something, lots of lip locking, tail slapping, colours brightening and shivering on front of each other and have had breeding tubes down. Now they generally swim close too each other. I was just wondering if anyone has seen this hybrid if they do eventually spawn together? Am not expecting fry too grow out anyways as my pair of Green Severums spawn regularly and never get fry past free swimming for 2 days.
Thanks

Its not possible, True SA Cichlids cannot breed with true CA Cichlids (Festae are the exception, which are more like CA than SA).

I don't know that I'd say it's 100% impossible but I do think it would be highly unlikely.

Green Terrors or Saums, are almost impossible to breed with another species. If u ever did end up with fry, they probaly wont survive after a couple of days.

acaras (such as the saums) will not produce viable fry with Vieja (or most other ex-Cichlasoma). at least not if done naturally, I wouldn't be surprised if it can be done as they do with all the unrelated catfish hybrids out there

As far as i know Ctfish genetics are much closer together than any of the Perciforms.

Would be interesting if it could be done, but i have never seen a CA/SA cross other than Festae x something, which are cery close to CA's/Amphilophus complex.

I wouldnt be surprised if something like a Geo Brasiliensis could be crossed with a Firemouth tho as they are so closley related/similar despite the SA/CA barrier that normlly affects breeding.
