What is better to feed to my predatory monsters? Fish that will be consuming either of these are 1 Florida gar, 1 red tail payara, 1 ornate bichir, 1 rope fish and 1 four line pim. I've been using tilapia forever but I just bought a box of frozen silver sides to try and my fish ate quite a few today. So which do you prefer?

Inb4: pellets,I already feed these daily so no need to recommend them.

I try to vary the diet with silverside, shrimp, squid, clams, and such. I would not feed just one. Personally Idon't like tilapia mostly because it is messy

Same. I use market prawns, live crawfish or ghost shrimp, and pellets, but I was really just wondering if anyone had a specific preference. I currently have both tilapia and silver sides in my freezer, along with bluegill and crappie. So yeah I very much vary their diet. I just wanted to see what people think about the two.

I would expect there to be better nutrition in the whole fish. brains, bones, offal... all have different nutrients than just plain muscle. if you're feeding the feeders, gut loading also will increase their food value.

I like the convenience of silversides, just thaw and feed...helps on the lazy days when i dont feel like cutting up squid or whatever (tilapia in this case)

+1
Fish eat whole prey in the wild not just muscle tissue. Silversides are a much healthier option and varying the diet is a must. I feed my monsters silversides, raw shrimp, smelt, and earthworms.

I haven't used silversides or smelt in a few years. Quite a few members on here that kept armatus and fed them with both all had random deaths and assumed it was the silversides. Then I read a nutritional post somewhere on here linking silversides to thiaminase and I haven't used them since. I vary my fish between pellets, tilapia, krill and catfish.

Makes sense to me but I use a lot of tilapia...I will be trying some of the whole frozen freshwater fish that they have at the Asian supermarket nearby.

a good brand of Pellets will sustain any fish with great results.

I agree but I also noticed when I feed my fish pellets alone, the next day their stomachs are empty and they're ready to eat again but when I feed tilapia, krill or shrimp they're still fat and full the next day.
