Silver vs Black Arowana?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have never kept a silver, but I love my black. So calm, just keeps to itself. The colors are so great, and even better if you have a blue light. And it feels pretty good when people say ,"Wow you have a black, how did you find one of those."

I've kept both and must say I enjoy my black a lot more.

I love my Black! Its so graceful and keeps to itself, except when the damn Orino comes charging in. Ive seen some good looking Silvers, but DE is a big turn off to me. Not the fishes fault, but I just prefer the Black over the Silver.

I have two 30" silvers and two 27-28" black arowana. They only look the same to the untrained eye. If you are going top raise the arowana from a baby, the experience of seeing the color change in the black is very rewarding. Blacks very seldom get DE, so when larger they still retain their agility during feedings. Large silvers feeding is a mix between a comedy and a tragedy, rather pathetic. Once they develop DE in both eyes, surface feeding is near impossible. I love my silver aro's and will never get rid of them, but I would likely never buy another.

So, IMO, yes black is well worth the money.

Definitely worth the extra money. I've kept silvers in the past and they all developed DE when they got bigger, kept getting asked by my guests what was wrong with its eye and got tired for explaining it lol.
