Hey Everyone,

I recently (a week and a half back) got myself a 4.5-5 inches silver aro. It is currently in a 250 gallon all alone. I'm feeding it random insects and home bred mollies and guppies which are fed flowerhorn pellets. Is this diet alright for its growth and well being?

I intend bringing it a Jar (pearl arowana) as a tank mate. Ofcourse i'll wait for the silver to grow till 7-8 inches after which i'll introduce the Jar which would be around 5-6 inches. Would these two stay together for atleast a few months till I can get a larger tank to house the silver alone? I have read online that Jars tend to become aggressive after they hit 12 inches. Would the Jar trouble the silver in my case till it reaches 12 inches?

Thanks,

SGR

IMO, I wouldn't risk it. Why not just wait for the jardini until you get another tank?

Hit or miss...
The sil aro. is such a docile fish to begin with.
Based on those sizes, you can try to house both WITH a tank partition til you can house one or the other in a different tank.

There is a current thread about how jars are with tankmates. Good luck.

I would grow the silver out more before intro the jar. i had a 11' silver with a 6' jar and jar was nipping at the silver. i had to separate. now i'm waiting for silver to get bigger to introduce. good luck!

jardini is such a beauty but it's too aggressive for any basic fish to swim along peacefully unless a flowerhorn is introduce into the tank just to tame the jardini

as was said, usually ends badly for the silver. i have a 4" silver and jar together in a 75 and nothing after a couple months, but i'm just waiting for the day. i'd like to keep both of those and my bigger black in my 300 when they get larger
