Where can I find silversides to feed my fish? I have 2 knives and a tsnXrtc and am looking into getting a silver aro. How much do the silversides usually run?

I havent been able to find them around here, so I just use smelt from the supermarket. I think its cheaper anyway, it was a couple of bucks per bag. my knife and aro love it :grinyes:

I get mine from Petco and Petsmart.

I buy silversides from bait shops.

You can get them from super markets, baitshops or fish markets.

Is smelt good for your arowana??

I have not had any problems with it.

All my other fish also eat it.

I've had good growth rates from it too. Another plus is that it is very cheap.

How easy is it to train your fish to eat the smelt/silversides? Mine are stuck on feeders and nightcrawlers. I've tried pellets and frozen shrimp with no luck (I've tried starving them for 2-3 days before trying the pellets & shrimp.) What kind of supermarket sells the smelt? We have walmart, safeway, fry's, and food city here. Any of those carry it?

Oh, and when you get the silversides, are they live?
We don't have any bait shops here that sell any bait (live or other) except meal worms and nightcrawlers.

they are usuallly frozen. i bought mine from petco and yeah it does get quite expensive.

my chinese perch was 17" and was fed nothing but live food when I got him, but I used the "shrimp on a string" trick and he eats anything now.
I starved him for a few days, tied a piece of shrimp to a fishing line and imitated live food. As soon as he hit it he wouldnt let go, and now he is hooked.
I've also used this method on picky arowanas, and its worked every time.
