I see alot of people talking about silversides as a part of their piranha's diet on this site. I've been trying to expand my RBP's diet. when i googled it, silversides can be many different kinds of fish. What exact fish are you guys referring to? thanks

You can get them at the grocery store. They are called smelts!! You can buy them by the case, just ask the meat dept to order a case for you. But if you are only feeding a few piranhas you can buy bags of smelts at various sizes. My Rhom and manny love them!!

I saw a bag of frozen silversides at Petco, but like all their frozen stuff, it was much more expensive than if you managed to get it from a grocery store.

I use them all the time, in the New England area I have only seen them for sale at Asian supermarkets. you can easily get them on-line shipped frozen to you. they are oily and leave a slight blotchy sheen on the top of water for days and when my jag and endli eat them little pieces float all over the tank. still, i like em cause the my fish eat them and they're not that expensive.

I buy the Silversides and Krill from pet store, also my RBP's LOVE the live Super Worms. Great source of protein and NO mess! I also feed beef heart and chicken breast (grocery store) and Super Cichlid Sinkers from HBH...mine seem to really dig the huge pellets. I'm new with P's but in my 13 years of fish fanaticism I find variety makes for amazing size and health! Good luck!

@ rubygirl. You should change your location, rbp are illegal in your state. As for silversides. Asian market be best place for freshness.

asian market has a lot more fish there than just silversides/smelts. price is good too.
I buy pretty much all my frozen piranha food from there.

You must be high cause she even says piranha in several places. Oh well they legal in my state.mods must be sleeping over here nowadays.slackers!
