is this an okay treat for my poly? Usually he only eats hikari massivore delite and maybe once a week some cut up fish fillet, but I got some of these for my cats, and I was thinking he'd really like them...(I'm not a fan of live feeders because of the whole disease thing, and I don't like having to mess with qua ranting them)

I feed silversides and smelt(from Giant) along with raw shrimp, shellfish, squid, etc, etc.... all the time. They LOVE it!!

I'm gonna show my ignorance here. What exactly are silversides?

jdryden, they're a fish you can buy pre-packaged from most grocery stores. I've never seen them around here(unless they're sold under a different name as well)

to be honest, I don't know what EXACTLY they are lol, but they look like minnows that have been cleaned up and they are sold in a big brick of frozen fishy goodness :D (now someone will say, they are minnows and show my ignorance :))

I bought them at my lfs, never seen them in a grocery store

Brent they are fine all my bichirs eat them its a part of thier steady diet also they can be great to get a stubborn bichir to eat.
jd:they are a form of salt water anchovy/minnow with a pronounced silver stripe running along the side of the fish. They should be found in the freezer section at better LFS's.In europe they would be called lancefish I do believe.
Nutritionaly they are:
Silversides
Guaranteed Analysis:
Crude Protein 50% Min.
Crude Fat 0.8% Min.
Crude Fiber 1.5% Max.

Ok, so they are basically anchovies? I'm guessing they are more likely going to be found at the LFS than the local grocery store.
