Does anyone know of a fish similar to flagtails. I want one for my 125, but they get alittle too big.

Hi,

They eat similar to Kissing Gouramis, but the striped tails are found at redhead tetras or flagtail porthole catfish for example.
Contrasting silvery body and red fins can be found at Buenos aires tetras.
I had a flagtail prochilodus but when he was about 3 inches, he started to chase other fish so I gave it away.
I have read some grow to 12, but others to 20 inches.
Maybe a 125 could be big enough, at least for one or two years.

If I read his post right I think james99 james99 is looking for something similar to a Flagtail but smaller.

I think you are right.
But I never saw anything like a dwarf flagtail prochilodus, so I suggested fish that have some parts in common.
Maybe red hook silver dollars, but they grow big too.

A flagtail is one on its own, it's a beautiful unique fish. Rather than get a fish that looks like a flagtail but stays small, if indeed such a fish exists that is, why not get a small flagtail and grow it out in your 125. You shouldn't have much trouble selling it on.

I may do this, only issue is I really hate giving up fish, especially not knowing where they will end up.

In our hobby we have a little word that we all love using, our partners absolutely quake in their shoes when they hear this word and come over all faint. And I think this word will serve you very nicely in your efforts to house a flagtail for life. The word I refer to is UPGRADE.

Yeah I'm in this camp. I will only keep fish that I can house permanently in my setup. I'd only give up a fish if it were absolutely necessary (like it was harrassing other fish that I liked better enough to harm them).

As an example, I think I'm highly likely to upgrade my 125g in the next 1-3 years so in theory I could get more clown Loaches to grow out in my current setup. I'm holding off in case stuff happens and I get stuck with my current tank

Same here. Went to the fish store last week . Shipment of SA stuff came in. Heart skipped a beat when I saw 1) SA Lungfish 2) Banded Knife 3) A Bunch of SA puffers in a bag ready to go.

Bought some plants instead.

Yellow fin flagtails seem to stay small, mine is stuck at 7inches while my red fin ones are growing much larger even though I got the red fins much smaller
