Simple and effective way to clean glass canopies ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Replace with polycarbonate better insulation and damn near impossible to break. The 1/8 will break, the plastics will break. 4 by 8 sheet for around $90 at most box hardware stores. Or I've found Scrub Daddys work great with vinegar.

Sorry about the rant. Glass lids are so expensive and fragile. I've gone through so many. Polycarbonate is so much cheaper and lasts forever. Easy to clean and as transparent as glass.

Curious how do you go about cleaning the polycarbonate, mainly for hard water stains? The idea of using polycarbonate lids has been bouncing around in my head for a while now. The durability and the ability to cut them exactly to size are what stand out to me. I've already chipped and cracked a couple glass lids. Thing with them is I usually can just take things off with a razor blade, obviously not an option with the polycarbonate.

Not sure why but I don't get the hard water or alge on it like I did glass. The little I do wipes off with a cloth and water.

If you have a local hardware store they might cut glass. I've replaced glass lids with double strength glass cut at the hardware store, used some acrylic self adhesive hinges on top, total cost about hald what replacement glass lids cost online.

I also did that for awhile. Better then the 1/8. The advantages I found with Polycarbonate over glass are it does not break, stronger than glass, easy to clean, better insulation. I keep large Amps and they hit the lids hard. Poly holds bricks to secure the lids without the risk of breaking glass into the tank.
