I threw together this quick and simple feeder ring a few days ago. I was tired of so much food getting into my sump. I don't like to turn off the pump for feeding and so I came up with this simple solution.

I cut a piece of scrap 3" ABS to about one and a half inches in length.
I sanded it to matte the surface (appearance only) and then drilled a small pilot hole in the edge.
I then drilled a small hole through the lip of the bracing on my tank.
I attached the piece of ABS with a small stainless wood screw and then drilled a second hole through the bracing and into the edge of the ABS.
I countersunk both holes with a larger bit, twisting it by hand.
After screwing both screws in tight it was nice and solid.

The ring hangs about 1/4" under the surface of the water. Because of my hood it is invisible at eye level, you have to stoop down and look up to see it.

The food has a chance to soak and sort of rains down. I have had the problem that even "sinking" pellets will float with water tension and make their way into the sump. I have already seen a significant difference in the amount of flakes and pellets going down the overflows into the sump, I'm quite happy with the results.

Anyways, this is obviously nothing too spectacular, but it was quick, easy, and effective. Oh, yeah, it was free, too. :D

Nice idea. Not a fan of drilling the tank trim, but it gets the job done.

I know what you mean.

On this tank you can't see the holes because of the hood and the holes are pretty tiny. I've had the tank for 12 years or so - if it was new I don't know if I would be able to do it...
