Hey.
I have a 50 gallon tank with only one Channa Punctata running a Fluval 305 så I decided I wanted that filter for my larger tank and go smaller because channas doesnt require that much filtration. So I had a filter good enough for 30 gallon it said but the media pockets are just so small and the "sponges" that came with it have too large holes. So I decided to make a new filter chamber out of a water bottle and fill with different medias I had lying around to increase the filtration. Here is the result:

So it will hold bio balls, cut up straws, filter sponges both intact and cut up and some filter "batting?". Will also add gravel in botton for bacteria to grow in and hold down the whole thing.

How easy will it be to clean the filter?

The top part is just pushed into the bottom part so you simply take those apart and clean :) You should be able to see where they meet in the pic.

Another "filter" or rather protein skimmer. I had a oil like layer in the tank so I figured I needed to do something about it and looked upon my old Fluval 1 so I made this :P The filter basket is turned upside down so water gets sucked in and the surface gets broken and then the water goes through the old fish bag filled with some filter wool and up through the pump which breaks the surface ones again.
