I'm thinkin about breeding my own feeders and using guppies, I have 29 gallon tank, I want to breed a lot of them so I'm thinking that is too small?

Also, how long would it take for a guppy to become at least somewhat decent size to where i can toss em in to be fed?

I'm thinking about starting with about like 15 females and like 10 males

I'd breed rosy red minnows in that size tank instead, I've seen your fish and it'll take a lot to get them full off guppies. Rosy red minnows get larger than guppies and are also easy to breed

Also, rosy red minnows will give your natives a good chase unlike guppies :)

Well, you don't have to make them a full food supplement...you can throw some in for snacks if you wanted to just like you could with guppies or any other feeder fish.

I think guppies grow pretty slowly. Haven't had them for awhile. A 29 gal should allow you to breed and grow quite a few just have some floating plants in the tank for the fry to hide in.

i would go with less males..maybe 5..they get around and will hit the females just fine with those numbers 3 females to every 1 male is best.

you can pack in allot of guppies in a 29 i used a 10 for a long time to feed my sculpin some snacks and with 6 females and 2 males i pumped out 50-100 fry per female ( depending on age..older mature females will have more) every 3-4 weeks lots of java moss and plants for the fry to hid in and you will not have to separate them to get a good number, feed the parents lots of small meals threw out the day to prevent snacking on the fry, meaty foods seem to work best when pumping out lots of fry, keep up with good water changes and filtration and you will be golden^_^

i would say with regular small feeding , i feed mine 4-6 times a day on live black worms live micro worms, frozen blood worms, brine shrimp and Omega one flakes, i could get my fry to nearly 1/2 inch in a month.

good luck!

something to look in to would be Paradise fish..a single pare can pump out 50 fry every 2 weeks..and the fry grow crazy fast on flakes alone..you can get the fry to almost an inch in a month.

hmmm, that sounds pretty good, i think i'd like to breed them as snacks, sounds like 29 gallons might be a little small actually
