Ok so for my birthday my best friend and my fiance all went in on a special ordered "Hystrix" ray from a local LFS. It came in being a P. sp. "Peru".
I love it all the same but they paid $90+ dollars for it. I know that these are right there in price with P. Reticulatus if not less. I like the LFS and I know it has nothing to do with them rather the distributors. They did not know about the ban(supposed ban?) from brazil and did not know that there was a chance on it coming in as something else. Is it really worth saying somehting about?

if you really want a hystrix ray, go to aquascape he is selling some for cheap like $100 a piece

I actually am buying a pair of true Hystrix from somebody so I really am not worried about it. I was just wondering if I should have said anything about it.
I love the ray just the same

peru rays are not the same retail as a retic.... dont know where you got your info on that... most time there priced the same as a motoro if not more with some crazy name...

I was misinformed then. I don't want to blow up anybodies spot but I was told they were cheaper. Thanks for the info Nic!

I would just inform the LFS, not that you're returning it or causing a fuss. Most LFS never know the difference. Two of the LFS where I live depend on me to inform them about rays they get in or consider getting in. There are roughly 5 (more or less) rays that typically are labeled hystrix and LFS are quick to say they are "true" hystrix based on their experience. 90 bucks is an awesome price for the ray either way in my opinion. Just let him know, just to be letting him know...especially since you love the ray. You may even want to show him a pic of a true hystrix. I've even seen fish encyclopedias mis-label them so unless you are really into rays, people really won't know.

Congrats and happy birthday!
