What would some of you suggest as a cichlid for my 55g tank (48x13x20)?

I am trying to run through my options ATM, and I would like to hear some suggestions...

The tank houses three 4" Senegal bichirs. One Delhezi is likely to be put in, but right now it is not a definate...

I think it may be better to stay away from cichlids, because the tank doesn't have decor of any sort, but are there any kinds any of you have used in a barebottom tank that wouldn't pester my bichirs?

unless you have a pretty large tank to upgrade to, dont get the delhezi. if it was a single fish i would say oscar, but you already have bichirs, so im not sure

The Del will be fine in a 55g... :)

Would lack of territory lessen any possible aggression?

How do your poly's enjoy having no cover? :) I dont know of any type of chiclid. What about tinfoil barbs?

no the del will not be fine in a 55g for life, especially because there are already 3 4" seg in there. even if it was alone, it would still need an upgrade

They act the same way they did when they were in my planted/caved tank... They pile, then they swim, then the seperate, then they repeat. :D

I beg to differ, but I will not dispute this with you. Ask others in the polypterus section of the site... You may be surprised.

I kinda agree with the upgrade myself. Delz's can reach massive sizes. like up around 2 ft. a tank thats not even that wide cannot possibly house that.

i beg to differ as well. its already pretty much full with the 3 seg. they get around 12" and 36" of fish is pretty much full for a 55g unless you wanted a smaller surface dwelling fish

Dels will not nearly reach 2 feet... lol

Please show me a two foot Delhezi.

14" is usually as big as they get.
