What do you guys think of this?

I have an Amiracle 300 series sump rated for 150-180 gallon tank, with dual overflows each rated at 400gph. The return pump is a surge 6000, 875 gph.

What I am thinking of doing is using the amiracle 300 to filter a 85g and a 55g. Both tanks will be set up as bare bottom tanks and will house my discus. The 85g will be the primary stocking tank with the 55g being divided into 2 sections for breeding.

Current tennents 8 4-5" discus, 4 4-5" clown loaches and a shaol of cardinal tetras.

I would like this common filter setup beacuse it will be easier to move the discus from one tank to the other. Easier acclimation and the water params will always be equal between tanks. Also I can do water change in the 55g breeder without disturbing the parents and fry, if needed.

Any drawbacks?

not a problem at all. im actually gonna run the same sump i have on my 400gal, to filter my piranha tank. jus plum the overflow to the filter media and have n xtra pump in the sump to put water to ur xtra tank. its real simple, its what all the lfs do. which is why they have less troubles usually moving fish from any tank to another...

eventually im gonna have all my tanks, on 1 system, in 1 room.

Yeah I dont see any problemw with doing at all. Actually in time thats what I want to do is consolidate my filtration on the little tanks I have to one filtration system. You dont need an extra pump either. As long as your pump(at head preasure) is pumping enough gph for both tanks, all you need to do is split the return line. Since one tank is larger than the other, put ball valves in the return line after the "T" to regulate the flow. If you wanted to get fancy get a couple in-line flow meters so you know how much water is going to each tank.

Sounds good to me too.

I'm planning on having a 150G and 180G in the Living Room on two different walls of a corner to form an Aquatic Nook.

The W/D filter and sump will be under the 180G with the drain piping of both tanks feeding into it.
The piping for the 150G will go along the baseboard between the two tanks.
The 180G return pumps will be directly in the W/D filter sump.
There will be a seperate sump under the 150G with pumps for the return into the 150G.
The return water for the 150G will get from the 180G sump into the 150G sump via a gravity feed pipe between the two sumps. Thus the water level between the two sumps should be near identical.

Should be interesting/fun setting it up and knocking down the bugs and things I didn't think of.

I just finished setting up a 60G in the Computer Room and boy am I glad I did! Learned lots of things that will directly apply to the above project.
