Singray pond turnover rate?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I say 5 to 10 times is a good figure. More is usually better. My systems are 480 gallons each and turn over 4800 gph.

Ive never thought much of turn over rates. Right now my large pond with 4 rays. Has a turn over rate of 1.5 per hour. And I have 3 prego females right now.. When I first bred rays. I had a 210 gallon tank with a 300gph pump. And they had bred in there. Wet drys work better the longer the water can "touch" the bio land

Very true the amount of Bio area and duration of contact is far more important.... but a good turn-over rate is also nice.... The only problem with that is the added energy consumption which isn't that efficient. When you have large tanks you have large energy bills. I'm sure mike can talk to that....... A high turn-over rate would be considered to be over engineering..., which is needed with expensive specimens......

5x would be good....

mine is running at 8 x per hour :D

Turn over really has nothing to do with water quality. anything more than 1x is fine. As long as you dont have dead spots in the tank. Your fine. Just using more power than you need to. As I said I have one 750 gallon per hour pump on a 500 gallon system. And My rays are breeding like crazy...
