  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In a pinch you could use it. Koi food is speciality designed for them.

I think hikari makes a sinking gold pellet, but I'm not too sure.

Machine, could you please post the ingredients and guaranteed analysis of that food?

I don't see why not most Hikari 3-4 basic food ingredients are the same...
Heres a breakdown of their color Enhancing KOI formula:

I find it rather strange that the ingredients are very similar for cichlids and koi. Based on the guaranteed analysis comparison, the fiber content for koi is rather low in comparison to cichlids. While this is indeed good for pollution reduction, the issue comes when the low fiber content increases the risk of bloat and constipation. A lot of goldfish foods are even low in fiber content and while this is good for pollution reduction, a lot of goldfish are prone to digestive upsets from food clogging in their systems.

The addition of Bacillus subtilis is also another difference. Since koi are usually placed in ponds, they become more prone to several bacterial and viral diseases which could explain their addition in the food. I could never see the day when I end up learning something new about this particular bacterial strain.

Another article explaining why koi food should be chosen and why Bacillus subtilis was added.
