I have a 2.5 inch gt and he gets tore into by all his tank mates he is not afraid but his main problem is his smaller tank mate a Texas around 2 inches I love my gt but I'm about to up and get rid of the texas because he seems on a mission to kill my gt but I was wondering do terrors only show agression when they get older or could I possibly have a peaceful gt?? Also maybe he is sick he has a little eye bulge but all his tankmates at the store did to its not like there way out there and he seems healthy is this norm. good color active eating properly like a hoss really eats more than mates can someone please throw me a bone

Well, each fish can be it's own individual, some gt's can be a little scrappy and some can be mild. You did say it's like 2". Maybe give'in a little time to grow it could better fend for itself. But be advised, texas chlds. as a whole, tend to put up a pretty good scrapp. What sz. tank are the in? If large enough Maybe you could add a dither fish or two to help spread out some of the beat'ins that your texas is hand'in out, and give the other fish time to recoup & not stress as much and maybe gain courage to challenge the texas for tank dominance... or maybe not.

GTs can be pretty docile at the smaller sizes . Not always, but they can be. Actually they can be down right weenies. As they grow they get more aggressive or at least better able to handle themselves. Normally by the time they get around 7-8" or so they rule their tanks. Keeping them with more aggressive cichlid when small isn't always advisable since they don't always stand up for themselves when they're little, but that depends on the GT(I've got a new 4" W/C juvie in an isolation net just itching to whoop everyones ass). Dithers will help take some of the pressure of the GT, but you may need to move him or the Texas if things don't improve after you add them.

I have a young gt and he is kind of a wimp as well. He's been getting picked on by his equally small JD tankmate quite a bit lately, but from what I understand that isn't realy that uncommon for them while they are young.

I have had 8" GT 6" GT and a couple little guys at like 3" all pansies. My severum was owning the 8" GT so much that I had to remove it (sev) from the tank.

My 7" male GT is a pushover, I love his passive personality. His "littermate" (or is it a "fry-mate" ??) is a 4" female in another tank. I guess she's a runt but she's a mean little thing! She's fine with her Queen Loaches but she'll pound another Cichlid no matter how big they are. :-O All depends on the individual GT.

GT's arent overly aggressive anyways, at least not compared to texas (cyano or carpinte). I have found that my Carpinte are very aggressive even at a small size, so the fact that your GT is getting his ass whooped isn't that surprising. However, if you give the GT time he should be able to hold his own within a month or two. Worst comes to worst just separate the tank for a bit.

green terrors arent very agressive at that young age....they get more aggressive when they are about 4-6

I agree with most everyone here that GT's get more agressive as they mature, but another thing to consider is growth rate. IMExp, GT's don't grow as fast as many other cichlids do, so if they're smaller or the same size as their tankmates as juvies, they may never become much of a scrapper. My 8" male GT is like a dog...GREAT personality in these fish IMO, but he's certainly no badazz

What size takn? That may be the driving force behind all this. not enough room and you're gona have problems regardless of species...they're cichlids
