HAAA your way too slow....actually know those guys, but have a much better place I will post some mounts up from when I get home from work that will blow your mind
I think I know where your coming from they hit there prey with the gill is that where you are going? But I have caught loads of preds on lures and yes a lot are under the chin but I have plenty of them with the lure beep in the mouth so they must open it up and inhale to get that in the mouth.
I Do like the surface lure one in a kitch sort of way I have this picture in my fish room makes me smile every time I look at it. It that old Angler and fish who is smarter thing.
Predator fish have a slingjaw vacuum system. Right at the correct moment, they will sling their mouth in a fasion that extends their jaws and sucks in water... and the prey item.. this happens in a split second.
the fish will also try and aim for the head of the fish.. Those Piranha are also pretty large to be prey items for those cichla... especially to be eaten backwards.
The first picture is also highly unlikely. Cichla usually dont attack fish like a great white shark attacking a seal. They usually make a quick turn at the surface.
