The manager of my lfs and I decided to order a group of Heros sp. Inridae to split, 5/5. He told me they were comig in tomorrow, but I got a phone call at 1pm that they had just arrived a day early. He swore he told me they were coming early, but who knows and w/ my schedule I had no way of picking them up. I know it sounds snobbish, but I prefer my special order fish to go straight to my fishroom and avoid community shop tanks if at all possible. Thanks goodness my boss/buddy is a fish freak too and he's grabbing them for me on The way to work when we do shift change. I got notatus 2 weeks ago and inridae today! Thanks Mike at 50 Fathoms for ordering me the rare sevs(even though he got me addicted to geos and severums in the first place) and thanks to JP for grabbing them for me. Pics soon...

Does anybody else feel they same way about special ordering fish from a lfs and them not putting them in community tanks?

I don't even have a store that will special order fish for me. I used to have one local guy who occasionally placed wholesale orders with Jeff Rapps and he offered to bring them in for me at list price, but then his store closed. :(

I don't like to buy fish from any store that has a central filtration system. One tank has an outbreak of anything and suddenly every fish is exposed.

I wouldn't hesitate for a moment, but I have a good LFS. They even kept my fish for me in one of their tanks for almost a week when my tank broke. I didn't lose one fish in the ordeal. Of coarse, my LFS does not have a central filter system.

Btw the heros sp inridae came in looking great, even better than the last batch of notatus. I will get pics soon. I didn't get to acclimate them until 10pm last night and I didny want to disturb them after the day they had. From Colombia to Bourbon Street, lol.

I'd usually rather a fish I special order end up in the LFS tank. They have clean tanks and I don't mind getting a chance to see a fish swim around, eat, and interact with others before trying to introduce it to a tank at home. Sort of like a pre-quarantine.

Absolutely! The few times I have ordered through an LFS, I specifically put it in writing on the receipt/invoice (as you usually have to prepay for special orders), not to open the bag AT ALL -- NO EXCEPTIONS!! I quarantine my fish, but one, it's stressful for the fish.....pack, unpack, pack again, unpack,....two there is a higher chance of your fish/water column getting some disease/critters if put in the shop's tank.

Well I felt lucky until I woke up 2 find 2 of my peruvian festae grow outs dead that were in tank w/ my notatus. I treated tank because wild caught notatus had slightly clamped fins. I think I had an ammonia spike when I removed filter cartridges to treat. I think these inridae will be special...
