1,2,3,4,5...6 yes that appears to be Six-banded (cheeky joke!).
I kept mine for ten years in the eighties (1984 to 1994) when we didn't know what we were doing and we couldn't find any info anywhere.
He (Stripey), started out at 2 1/4 inches and reached 15 inches in a six foot tank.
Ate anything and I fed lots of leafy vegetables.
With greater size he lost colour but gained sparkly scales.
Did not eat my Cardinal Tetras etc.. and it was great to see him swim through a shoal of these or the African Long-finned Tetras.
Would not tolerate anything larger 4" plus that could be perceived to be competition.
His demise was caused by fright and hitting the lid hard enough to cause fatal damage to the head. My otherwise superb quality 1970 Juwel Aquarium has a stupid lid that does not tilt back enough and can fall unexpectedly which causes a startling bang. I just realised I never fixed this but I guess I just work around it never leaving it up and it never happens now.
I was understandably upset about this and buried him in his own undisturbed spot in the garden with stone to mark the place.
My next and current fish are my 27 year old Clown Loaches.
