Hi,

I picked up 6 big piraya next week. They're 15 to 20"!! The two biggest are real monsters and weigh 11-12 lbs.
I have to upgrade my tank because I hadn't expected such monsters.

Bye.

Nice pick up! They look beastly.

Awesome.
Wild-caught, or from a fellow fishkeeper?

When mine approached 16'', they developed HITH, despite drip system and ground probe. Retrospectively, I blame diet (fillets) even though I enriched it with supplement injections.

True /\/\onsters.
Congrats.

Nice Beasts.
Looking at pictures I think it's captived for long time, wild caught does not look muscular like those beasts...I meant overfed :P

Hi,

Thanks for your comments.
They're coming from a german pet store. They were 12 in a 2000 gallons tank (1200 of water) since 2006. Imported at 6".
Yes, overfed ;) Three meals per week!

Fof HITH, you're right, diet is often in question.

Best regards.

6 of these behemoths in one tank.. That sure is some sight to behold. They look very healthy and beastly. keep us updated G Geryi following this thread!

Hi,

Yes, I'll you updated.
I'll change the tank as soon as possible. The actual one (350g, 100"x32"x25") is too small.
I'm looking for a 600g with more floor surface (120"x50 if possible).

Bye.

In your personal opinion what should they be fed to counteract the hith?

Whole fish with full guts.
My runner-up theory is mineral content of the water. There's got to be a reason why their natural habitat is so geographically limited.

Wow! Congratulations on your score. They're gorgeous! Have you considered building a large plywood tank?
