Hi All,

Can someone help me think of a Six Sigma Project that has to do with this hobby? I want to get my six sigma - black belt certification. But it requires you to complete a project.

I am not passionate about potential projects at my day job, so I was hoping to instead do a six sigma project that has to do with my hobby that has an impact on making me a better fish keeper and teaches me a lot.

Can you help me brainstorm a project? I have time, the course I plan on attending doesn't have open attendance until August of next year. So I have time to get things in order.

Thanks,

Polypterus. I would focus on the wild caught vs captive bred variables. Growth rates and adult sizes are the obvious things people are interested in and you could extrapolate further information on catch location, size when captured, fecundity rates amongst captive groups...

As far as sources you could try some of the keepers here but make sure your info is solid...some MFKers like to paint a really perfect picture...

What’s a six sigma project?

Where I work six sigma is related to continuous improvement which was developed by General Electric. I wonder if this project is a far stretch from what he does for work.

When I Google it this is what pops up
“Six Sigma is a process that makes use of statistics and data analysis to analyze and reduce errors or defects”.
so maybe like said before with the growth rate of fish, like being able to properly and accurate chart or study the time it takes different species or subspecies to grow to maximum size in X amount of time or something like that

My understanding is that it was just a field of analytical statistics tailored to fit and apply to business models.

I always thought six sigma were the bean counters who figured out how many and which workers to lay off.
