No personal experience but I've seen plenty of people house smaller rays with larger. As long as it's not a pup you should be fine. Also depends on the temperament of the 12" female tho.

In many cases it can work but there is an element of risk, it depends on the rays involved, keep a close eye on the situation.

If it's a bigger female and smaller male it should be fine
