My salvinis (2 male, 3 female) are quickly putting on size and I'm expecting some pairing off to occur soon (the larger male and one of the females have been viciously defending the inside of a coliseum ornament) and wanted to get an idea of a good size for a fry growout tank.
They're currently in a 55g tank with a 10" senegal bichir and an 8" pleco. Once I can confirm a pair, I will most probably remove the remaining salvinis. Do you think the bichir and pleco will be fine if left in the tank?
I am aware that the bichir will eat the fry if given the chance which is why I'm looking into getting a growout tank (I'll be siphoning out about 3/4 of the fry into the growout tank, leaving the other 1/4 to try and keep the parents from spawning again too soon).
I was thinking a 20g long or (space under the 55g's cabinet allowing) a 29 gallon for the growout tank. Any suggestions?
