in an effort to give the correct info to people i was curious as to what size the ropefish can attain? ive lots of reasurch and every website and book says something diffrent, so what size is normally attainted in captivity?

They can get up to 3 foot (36 inches) but in aquariums they usually get up to two foot (24 inches), make sure you keep a tight lid with NO gaps because my foot long rope fish managed to escape through a 2cm hole

Sorry but that's Bull!
Max size in aquariums is usually 12-14". Biggest I have ever seen in a tank is 17", so 18" is the maximum size you can expect.
Remember to keep in groups and with a tight lid.

I have an LFS that has about 5 18"+ in a 15 gallon (makes me mad), and no one has bought any of them for a couple of years. i was thinking of buying them and putting them in my 75 (even though it would be overstocked it'd be better than a 15) But they were asking 75 dollars for 1. Then they also had 2 senegalus' 1 only had 1 eye and the other didn't have any eyes they asked 20 for 1 of them. Some people......:irked:

hhm still have a lot of difference in the size, guess ill just tell people between 12 and 24 inches. thanks for the input, wonder if there might be a couple diffrent species or some enviornmental factor in the size diffrence

Think about it like this Obviously WC will grow bigger than CB. Then you have to assume that all of the ones that reached 12-24" were cared for well (water changes every week, fed appropriately etc..,) I think that the better you care for them the larger they grow. You can't grow a 36" rope fish in a 20g with poor water quality. Though you can raise a monster 36" rope fish with a 220g with more than excellent water quality etc..., I think it depends on where and how the actual fish was raised. Of course then there is genes that can alter the outcome.

Science has yet to see a legit 20"+ ropefish specimen. They do not grow over 18" in captivity and not over 20" in the Wild.
