size of sump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The bigger the better... A 300 gallon should be fine.

no- i have heard 1/3 the size of your tank (is that right?) so could you fit a 90 gallon under that tank? thats what id do...

The minimum size would be just big enough to hold your proposed filtration (plus a little extra room for future upgrades).

As to maximum size...
The bigger you can make it, the slower water chemistry and temperature will change. A more stable water quality is always good, so I say build it as big as you have room for. I have a 300 gallon rubbermaid I use as a sump for my 135 FW community. It gives me plenty of room for filters. Also, the extra 200 gallons of water makes a great heat sink so I don't run the chiller too much.

As big as you have room for.

Ditto. Go as big as you can, you won't regret it. I made a 200 gallon sump for my 300.

yea i would say 1/2, 1/3 is the bareminimum and wouldnt give you much room to work with stock wise

if thats what you can fit, thats what you can have...

bigger is always better with filtration, but we gotta work with whats available/suitable etc...

you could always add an external cannister if need be
