Hopefully this hasn't been asked to many times.

It seems like Datnoids more so then many other fish increase in value quickly with their size.

Is there a reason for this? Are they harder to get to the large sizes compared to others species?

Is there a general price range? Like x inches = x Dollars?

The reason I ask is I'm trying to find fish to stock my 300 Gallon I'm building and since I'd like to get an Arowana, Datnoids are a highly recommended tank mate. I like the coloring of the Dats and they seem interesting. So I'm trying to figure out what a batch of them would cost as I haven't found any places online yet that I can purchase them.

Any information is greatly appreciated. Especially if you can point me in the direction of an Online retailer.

Well like most fish,if you get them small they will be less expensive. They are very slow growers so those who sell bigger dats would have a price that would reflect the time and effort that went into getting these fish to a nice size.I have my eye on one of two two inchers that costs twenty dollars each.

As an approximate guide, private sale: for indo... I would say up to 10 inch size, £10-12 per inch.
After 10 Inch growth slows down considerably, so price per inch will go up.
If u go lfs however... Prices are just silly. .

Ya slow growers....price jumps on all dats once they are bout 7''+. Get your dats before an aro=.....the aro's grow much quicker.

^agree i got my aro b4 my dat i was never able to put them together.
but i my experiance with dats the seem to have a fast metabolisim they can grow quick if they have been fed fequently. my AT gerw from .5 to a fat 3in in 10 and im sure bigger if i would have fed it more

It's supply and demand

HArd to buy big datnoid and it's also HARD to sell big datnoid

at least this happen in my area...

its not just the size that counts its the stripe config

a 10 inch tiger with perfect stripes will be worth more than one with broken stripes to some people

color also plays a big part

I agree.

Thanks for the info everyone. I guess I'll be looking for all the other things I plan on putting in the tank before I get an Arow. It will give me time to decide what type I want and give whatever tank mates I decide on time to grow a bit.

I'm thinking of going with the Datnoids, a Flag tail or two, and maybe some freshwater rays. These seem to be kept together quite a bit and really do like the look of all of them.
