I was wondering what people out there thought the minimum lenthXdepthXheight tank you would need to keep an arowana in for life!? I was thinking of setting up a tank that will be about 7 and half ft long by say 3 wideX 3deep. just not sure if the lenth is enough. Thanks for any advice!!

mine is 8' x 2' x 2' (240g).. My lfs told me that It would be enough for one arowana and a couple of other monsters.....

seems that the tank is enough, but if you can extend the lenght of the tank it would be much better for silver and black aros

A good "Rule of Thumb" for housing any large fish for life is to provide a tank with a length of, at least, twice the fish's adult length. The tank should also be, at least, half again wider than the fish's adult length.

Young aros are extremely flexible and can turn tight circles with ease. However, as they age (like all of us), they become less flexible and a wider tank will help facilitate a normal adult swimming pattern.

I realize that's asking for alot of tank to house a 48" fish. However, we're looking to properly house the fish. Not force them to conform to available housing.

well proberly an asian, maybe a silver or black as well! Was thinking to mix them with siamese tigers and stingrays. Any thoughts!?

Some people keep silver arows in a 6x2x2 so i think your 7x3x3 is great for an arow, but if you could make it like another couple of feet longer that would be sweet. ;)

my LFS has a mascot named hunchback...it is a 5 yr old Silver Aro that was kept in a 10g for over half of its life! the person just said "fish only grow to the size of their tank." like the fish would stop growing! Now this poor aro is about 2ft long in a 16 in length! poor guy.
