Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm planning to make my first attempt at a DIY sump - I've been watching UaruJoey's videos on Youtube, and want to build a trickle tower similar to the one in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZJBm89MuzU, which will sit in a 29 gallon sump tank.
The sump is going on an established 75 gallon tank, which isn't drilled, so I'll be doing a DIY overflow as well.
I'm just looking for some advice on what size pipe I should be using for the overflow, and how many GPH I should be looking at for the return pump.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Dan

there are lots of threads on this forum about pvc overflows. first thing you need to decided is the gph your pump will be putting out at your head height. then once we have that info we can help choose your plumbing size

Your over flows depend on the pump. I did 2 3/4" uraujoeys design and I bought a rio2500. 790gph but with head I'm at 500. I'd go with 2 1" to have the extra give and you'll be able to run a lot of pumps

I wanted to do a trickle tower sump on a future turtle tank . I was gunna use a 110 gallon stock tank as the turtle tank and I want to use the drain plug on the stock tank as an overflow (yes the tank will be lifted) and run a trickle tower too it. And I was gunna use 3/4" pvc and use a 500 gph powerhead as the return on top of using my magnum 350 canister . I had this posted on a turtle forum but someone told me to bring it here. Thought it couldn't hurt ! Amy thoughts
