Hi guys my dad's a fisherman on the North Sea (UK) when I was discussing the possibility of stingrays he said he could catch me some skate from the sea as he picks up quite a bit which is useless, does anyone know what the species are and whether I could keep them? Cheers

UK ELASMOBRANCH SPECIES

That which follows is a list of sharks and rays that have been caught in UK territorial waters (e.g. 12 nautical miles / 22.2km from the coast). The list makes no assumptions about residency of any of the listed species, nor does it suggest that all these sharks and rays can still be found in our waters. Please note that the Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is not included in this list owing to a lack of any confirmed evidence of this species' presence - see my article on British Great White Shark for more details.

Thanks for the reply mate really useful list! Would the thornback ray be suitable for a 9' diamater pond or is that out of the question?

did you get one? come on tell us the truth, you could for a while, I have 8 small rays ranging from 7"- 12" across in a 9' pond

Doggle, do you ever see or catch the lesser spotted dogfish (Scyliorhinus canicula)? I have been trying to find someone to import a couple into the states for me. I have contacted one supplier in Europe and they only carry warm or tropical species, not the cold water spotted dog.
