I have a 10gallon tank.. And i need to buy a skimmer.. I was thinking of getting a large one.. Maybe one that is recomended for a 40-50gallon tank.. I want to know if i can keep the skimmer outside the tank..and connect it with pvc pipes..? It would be a venturi driven skimmer... Im a noob at SW so pls excuse my lack of knowledge...

you can get those hang on skimmers...as the name says, you just hang them on your tank.

You have a 10g and you want a skimmer.... my first question is why, and what will you be keeping in the tank?
If you provided more information on why you want to add one, and feel that it is so necessary right now, I'll give you a couple of reasons why it's not needed on a tank that small.

You can run certain skimmers externally. AquaC EV series, the skimmer that i own, can be run outside of a sump, but only skimmers for large tanks can usually handle this. the most efficient way, not the only, but the best is to have a large water pump, mag series are common, and this would feed the skimmer. Now skimmers run this way, need to have a lot of air to water volume, so there usually large, or specially designed for this set up. high end deltecs are designed to be run externally.

As you asked the question and i gave an answer, i will no give my advise. I would strongly advise against this setup, as you will spend a lot of money, for something that is just not wroth it. A simple aquac hob series skimmers, and even coralife skimmers would work just fine, and not cost an arm and a leg. On the flip side you can run the skimmer for a larger tank, that is within the skimmers operation range.

A lot said, sorry for the long response.

Well i keep having a nitrate problem.. I have a lot of green slime algae growing(cyanobacteria).. I was told to get a skimmer by a memeber of a local forum.

Im using a 2213 for filteration, which i clean every week. I have a 200gph powerhead. The tank size is 2x1x1, lighting is 2x CFL (15 and 23 Watts) and a T8 of 18 watt(All are 6500k).
Here's a list of the fish that are in the tank..
1x 4 Striped Damsel (2")
1x Chrysiptera unimaculata (2")
And some small locally caught gobies all less than an inch..
There are a bunch of snails and a Heteractis aurora..

The fish are fed on Azoo 9 in 1 Marine Fish Pellets..

I have been dozing Kalk for almost 2 weeks of about 1 litre per night..

And the Filter media is just scrubbies..and small bag of crushed coral.. I was thinking of keeping just one pad of scrbs and filling it with ceramic rings and a bag of carbon..

ok well now that we know what you use on the tank, and what resides in it....
how about more information regarding your habits with the tank.
feeding?
lighting period?
water changes?

Are you sure you are getting cyano. Cyanobacteria tends to appear when there is over excessive nutrients in the water, and extensive lighting. I would also have to say that cyano tends to stay on the reddish side and not green.

So right now I will presume that you don't do many water changes, the filtration has become a nitrate factory. You have too much livestock in a newly setup tank.
Now keep in mind that these are all assumptions till you provide more information.

You ask for help, and we're here if you can be more specific...... especially when trying to diagnose a problem.
