just thinking, would a skimmer be any advantage on a ray tank?
with the high protien diet and the amount of food going in the tank.

i know that they are ment for salt water and saltwater is easyer for it to work correctly because the water is heavier (i carnt think what the right way to describe it is sorry) so the bubbles have more of an effect on the protien in the water.

i have a friend with a spare one so i might just try it and see but my rays are very small and as such probably wont polute the water enough to see wether it would work or not. but when there big and im feeding stupid amounts of food it might help.

i forgot to say, i have seen special freshwater skimmers before but they were very expencive.
like i said my mate has a spare one from a marine tank he never used and i could probably borrow it or get it cheap, so i thought why not.

wouldnt do anything...

i know its not needed and to be honest my tanks are always way over filterd with decent water changes every 2 to 3 days.

it was just a thought on another form of filtration.

just to show what i have ready for my 7x3x2 tank

30" overhead sump with trickle tower holding atleast 40ltrs of k1 bio media and 4 2" thick blocks of foam.
fluidised sandbed filter
fluval fx5
ehime 1200 lph external with tmc 600 uv (need to buy the uv)
2x fluval internal filters.

i also have plans to re install my 4ft planted tank filter above it but not decided yet. this is from my old 8x4x2 tank which was then used on my 7x3x3 and then put in storage after it was sold.

the reason the FW skimmers are so expensive is because the are about 4 x the size of the largest SW skimmers which they need to be to have any effect

they just don't work that great on FW no matter what size they are

just use polyfilter it removes all the heavy organics

what rays did you get ?

if you read my threads or botherd to give me a call youde know old man! lol.

Protein skimmer not necessary for the freshwater stingray but for saltwater tank is recommened. Howevery i believe if you can apply to your tank, i believe you will gain the profit but not so sure that it can help you gain profit as much as it apply to saltwater or not.
