I feel like a big dummy for not knowing this but how do you know where a good setting is on the skimmer?

well let me try to explain a lil more. i have a skimmer, not the best in the world but its all i could afford for now until after the holidays. i got it from petsmart. a seaclone 100. now i tryied adjusting the air intake but i really have no clue. lol if you use it wide open, thousands of lil tiny bubbles flood the tanks. if you adjust it to where there is no bubbles then there is no "foam" action going on. The salt setup is still a new to me some im learning as i go. so please bare with me as i try to make it through. lol anywh0, how much air should there really be? does the lil bubble hurt? what would be an ideal setting for skimmers. Thanks in advance

the valve that comes with those things are crap..throw it away and put a little plastic airline valve on it.check out the mods aswell.my buddy made a real nice slurpgun out of his..

i also have a seaclone 100 and i found it better to not use that stupid valve it is kinda noisy without it though but it does the job for me... heres some advice if it gets annoying take the valve out only when u are not home

I been doing alot of research on these seaclone skimmers. from what i been reading they are crap! lol There are some mods that supose to help but from what i read they dont help much. The skimmer been on the tank for like 5-6 weeks now. Not to sure how long the break in period is. Today I'll go and by a better valve to control the air intake to see if that helps any.

and yes i have tried pulling the valve all the way out but then million of microbubbles fllod the tank. so many of them that you cant see anything else lol.

I just dont know what an idel setting is for skimming. :(

Return the seaclone, and buy a better, used skimmer from a hobbiest for the same price. If you cant find one pm me, i have a bunch. Anyway my first salt tank was a used 55 I bought with a used seaclone. I could never get the vertex thing adjusted the way they show in the manual and could not get it to skim. I went to petsmart and picked up a new one, thinking that the used one might have been broken or something. Same thing with the new one, I just could never get it to actually pull any foam.
I returned that one, and bought an Aqua C urchin that worked wonderfully, and would highly recommend it for a smaller tank.

I paid about $100 + tax for the seaclone, you should be able to get an urchin for $140 or so new, a used one should be the around the same price.

yea, i plan on getting a better one after the holidays. i only paid 70 for it it all i could aford at this time. i know now what a pos it really is and learned the hard way. but none the less i have so im using it untill i can get another. but thx for all info :D

and cl is craig's list
